In the world of personal finance, being prepared and informed is important, yet many women aren’t prepared for unexpected financial events. Years of advising have shown the stark consequences of stepping back from financial decisions—especially for women. This insight birthed the transformative Suddenly Single Workshop.

One story that inspired this workshop involves a woman who, after the sudden loss of her husband, a financial advisor, discovered the reduction of their life insurance’s death benefit due to a large loan, leaving her to face significant financial challenges alone. Another narrative tells of a woman unable to manage her husband’s affairs after an accident, as all financial arrangements were designated for after death, highlighting the critical need for legal and financial preparedness.

“My girlfriend and her husband hopped on a motorcycle for a ride last Sunday. Something happened, and he flipped the bike. Now her husband is in the hospital on life support. She doesn’t have legal power to get his paycheck, pay his bills, move money, borrow money. She can’t take care of his affairs at all. Everything was set up to pay at death. But he’s not dead.”

These stories, and countless others, underscore the vulnerability many women face in times of crisis. The Suddenly Single Workshop aims to address this by providing a supportive space for women from all walks of life, including those newly single, widowed, or facing financial uncertainty within their marriage. This workshop offers not just a chance for learning and empowerment, but also a community of support, where questions are encouraged, and experiences shared.
